Painting

Sun Aug 9, 2009, 11:35 PM
So those of you who watch me may have noticed something a bit different being posted then my usual photos. I have been trying my hand at acrylic painting. Long before I was a photographer I painted. At the time in oils because that is what my grandmother used and who taught me to paint. I have lots of fond memories of walking to my grandparents house and my grandma Lila and I sitting and painting together for hours.

So a few months ago I decided that I would really like to start painting again, especially with all the free time I knew was coming up. So I took a non-credit class in acrylics at the local CC. I had a lot of fun and I really liked the differences and similarities to oils which I was used to painting. So I bought paint and canvases and have been working on practicing when I have time.

Back when I was younger I did almost all landscapes and I decided that I wanted to branch out and try some new things. So I have been mixing still life, some animals, and a little kind of surreal fantasy. I plan on doing much more and am currently working on another ocean themed painting and next will try tackling that most scary subject of all, a self-portrait.

As I feel my way through widely varying subjects and remembering and refreshing and growing my painting skills I hope to hear some helpful comments. If anyone has any suggestions for painting ideas I am open to pretty much anything and other's ideas are always welcome.

It's going pretty well. Dale is actually working down in Elko, Nevada(about 3 hours east of Reno) now. I'm still up in Washington until it becomes a permanent job. It is contract work at the moment. So things have gotten better in some way. Have fun at the air show and talk to you soon.

Yeah I'm very familiar with Elko, spent my fair share of travel time through there in the past. It's good that he's got some more work now, particularly since the mine up there shut down it seemed kind of bleak for you two job wise. My brother lost his job at Baker Atlas as well, but has had some interviews with ConocoPhillips since then and decided to go back and get his Masters Degree too. As for me the FAA is currently screwing me every which way with how their handling my medical clearance, when I get back from Reno I'm going to put my foot down and go in and bust some skulls to try and get this all figured out. It's so irritating to deal with these assholes.

And hey if Dale has a day off during the week I might have a spare ticket for him to run out to the races one day. (chances are I probably wont but I'll know more about that by Wednesday) So have him drop me a line or something if he's free anytime after Wednesday but Before Sunday heh. I mean I know he's a fan and has mentioned it in the past about it being cool to go and see it.

Yeah, bleak doesn't begin to describe how it has been looking jobwise up here. Right now the job in Elko is contract work which will most likely become permanent at the beginning of the year. Which is why I am still up north while he is down there.

I will definitely have Dale drop you a line. He doesn't have any days off till the 21st but I will have him talk to you. And if we do end up moving down there we will most definitely make it next year.

I do read your journals, even though I don't normally comment. Hopefully you get your flight status figured out soon. I wish you luck with that.

Be great if it became a sure deal for him down there in Elko, sadly not much to do there expect work out in the desert heh. Well sounds like it sucks to be up there in Washington all by yourself, can only imagine how "fun" (as sarcastic as possible) it's going to be if you have to spend the winter there. Seeing your dislike of Snow and Cold is it?

As for Dale droppin me a line, I don't think he did but he might have. Had a few "unknown" calls that didn't list any numbers on my cell while I was down there at the races. Shame though because it turned out we had a lot of open tickets and stuff, so if he had managed to weasel out for a day could have jump on by heh.

As for the Journals I kind of figured you still kept up with it but I always seem to mention stuff again and again in conversation when referancing how shit is going for me. I repeat myself sometimes, too often anyways lol.

Do you wanna come with me?
It won't be quiet, it won't be safe, and it won't be calm. But I'll tell you what it will be: the trip of a lifetime.
